Brynlyn works from an Integrative Psychotherapeutic framework. This means that she honours the harmony of the whole person. We are all made of unique personal experiences, beliefs, values, skills and this kind of therapy is not a one-size fits all. We make a plan and practice just for you.

We are humans with many facets. Like a gemstone with many surfaces, when the light catches just right, there is a response. We reflect, we refract, the light exists. The light can show the fear, the numb, the rageful, the broken, the othered, the quiet one. And yet there are many other surfaces of our gemstone that make us who we are.  The kind, the gentle, the insightful, the goofball. All facets make us who we are. All are important.

In Integrative Psychotherapy we practice integration through getting to know and investigate how the trickster gets us to think, behave and feel certain ways, we practice awareness, stabilization, and bring integration to experiences and beliefs. This process of reclamation supports restoration of wholeness, capacity and resilience.

We do this by paying attention to how our body, mind, emotions and physical self responds to what we are going through. We look at how our physical sensations, things we tell ourselves, emotions, stories we are told, what we believe, and actions show us.

We build capacity to regulate together, be in our body and mind in safe ways, build trust, bring curiosity, playfulness and enlivenment to our experiences. We practice together with interventions that are based on research-validated knowledge, how to respond to what is shining bright on the gemstone. We practice new ways of being informed by Mindfulness, Expressive Arts, Somatic, Polyvagal and Depth Hypnosis practices.

Depth Hypnosis, developed by Dr. Isa Gucciardi, is a comprehensive, integrative therapy fusing Transpersonal Psychology, Hypnotherapy, Integrated Energy Medicine, Buddhist Philosophy, and Earth-Based Shamanic Wisdom and Tools. There is no prior experience, knowledge, or belief needed in any of these areas to receive the benefits of Depth Hypnosis. Working on the subconscious level allows root patterns to be seen, acknowledged and powerfully reclaimed.

FAQs

What is the first session like?

At the start we will explore the resources in the room and review the consent form. We can discuss any clarifying questions you might have and then we can jump into exploring what brought you in? Folks often feel nervous—super normal. We will walk through the beginning processes together and create intentions of our time together and goals of measuring how the impacts of counselling will be measured. The point is to build relationship and a sense of safety at the beginning.

How often should I come to counselling?

Most folks find it useful at the beginning to come weekly while we are establishing rapport and building a foundation for the work. Over time, session frequency will decrease based on feeling a sense of change outside of session. Counselling takes commitment and doing the work outside of session is important so that the goals you make can be practiced, experienced and celebrated.

What is it like to be in counselling?

You can expect to start our sessions with a check in; this will guide the work that we do in session together. We will use multi-modal approaches to share your experiences through body movement, sound, expressive arts, mindfulness to explore the theme from a lens that looks at the mind, emotion, physical and spiritual parts of our life. With Integrative Psychotherapy, the point is to honour and remember all parts of ourselves and welcome them back home. We will work in these ways to bring integration and harmony.

What do outdoor sessions look like?

We can meet at the office and spend time in the nearby forest and trail system. Alternately we can meet at an agreed upon spot somewhere nearby. Research shows support of overall health and well-being by spending time in the natural world. We can arrange to supplement our indoors sessions with outdoor time, if desired. Please be aware that every effort for privacy will be taken, though it can not be guaranteed that the same level of privacy will occur as in an enclosed office.
