Your soul is calling you home
This is language I often use.
Being born in a human body, with human kin in families, comes with all of what it means to be human. The intricacies of emotion and relationships. And the pleasures and the beauty, through sensation.
Things get messy and complicated when we focus on the outer world, on the tangles and the thorns. It's an overarticulation of polarity.
When the soul calls us home, it often comes through the messages of the body. Sensation. Pain. Physical symptoms, what the medical field might call disease. Relationship challenges. Addictions. All of it contributes to suffering, and over time it compounds, and compounds, and compounds. These are the patterns we perpetuate through our focus.
Illness is real. Addiction is real. Get the care you need. And in my experience, the body is also telling you something.
We keep ignoring the messages, our unique ways of perceiving, beneath the chatter, the buzzing of expectations, the hierarchy of success and failure, everything we believe we have to pursue to be whole. The soul calls us back so we can enliven, and actually inhabit, our human being.
So we start simple, with the senses. That's why we start with the body. Each of us has our own ways of perceiving. Some people see. Some hear. Some sense. Sometimes a message just comes into consciousness.
I'm standing here with my eyes closed.
Feet hip width. Hands on my belly. Breath deep and low, not forced.
I bring my awareness inside, and my body takes me to different parts of my physiology.
Everything settles and lengthens. A spiral unwinds from my brain stem to my tailbone, low and slow, making more space between each turn, until there is a pillar of spaciousness within my human.
This is slowing down, so I can pay attention on purpose. From the outer world to the inner world. Seeing, smelling, tasting, hearing, feeling, just knowing, uniquely as your human.
Then we practice.
I get a message. I do the thing. I get another message. I do the thing. Breadcrumbs. I follow them, trusting that when I take this step I will be received.
That's how trust builds between the brain and the body, and between you and yourself. The body gives the message, you receive it, you respond, with hands on the body, offering reciprocity.
In my understanding, this is neuroplasticity. I go to the practice over and over and over again, and it becomes familiar. What's familiar can be depended on, and what can be depended on becomes trusted. Through patterning in the brain and behaviours in the body, it becomes the most familiar, so it can inform historical patterns to reroute.
This is my experience, after years of practices that have changed and evolved. It's a template that becomes pattern that evolves when feedback is noticed and implemented in practice. It all serves the evolution into the human enlivening.
The brain and the body meet at an intersection in the middle, instead of the extremes. The centre of the centre of your human, through your biology. And the enlivening can come back to you, so your soul can actually inhabit and enliven your human.
